Scouting featured at 3rd annual Fulshear Friday Night Independence Day

On July 2, the third annual Fulshear Friday Night Independence Day Celebration will honor 100 years of Scouting in America. Sponsored in part by local businesses and developments, Fulshear Friday Night has developed a large following. Last year’s event had some 3,000 people attending the free event.

Independence Day set for July 2
Plans for Fulshear’s Independence Day Celebration are underway. This year the City of Fulshear will be honoring the Boys and Girls Scouts of America. The committee is looking for the oldest Scout to be the Grand Marshall and is calling on all scouts. The parade is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. from the library followed by music, games, booths, food and fireworks at Fulshear First United Methodist Church grounds on Harris Street.
Parade, booth, and Miss Firecracker contest registration forms can be obtained at www.Fulshear.com or from City Hall. There is no charge for parade entries and booth with electricity cost $60.
Cycle 4 Sight bike ride
Fulshear-Simonton Lions will be hosting a charity bike ride on May 1 at Estates of Whispering Oaks, located on Winner-Foster Road and FM 359. The 14-70 mile ride will travel through Fort Bend, Waller and Austin counties. Assisting with the ride will be Lions from the Sugar Land, Rosenberg, Fort Bend, Needville and Wallis clubs. Orchard Jamboree fires up

The Orchard VFD Jamboree will be Friday and Saturday, Sept. 17-18. Plans are underway now for the annual fund raiser.
The first committee meeting is Thursday, April 22 at the old city hall in Orchard. All are welcome to come share ideas and participate. Plans are for a street dance on Friday night, with the main Jamboree activities and live music for Saturday.
Anyone wishing to make a donation can contact any member of the Orchard VFD or mail a check to Orchard VFD, PO 175, Orchard, TX 77464. Donations for the raffle or auction items can also be made to any member of the department.

Franklin Novicke Memorial Golf Tournament May 28

The Fourth Annual Franklin Novicke Memorial Golf Tournament is scheduled for Friday, May 28 at the Stephen F. Austin Golf Course in San Felipe.
The tournament format is a 4 man Scramble with a Shotgun start at 9 a.m. Entry fees are $65 and include green fee, cart, range balls and lunch.
A special feature is two hole-in-one contests offering prizes of a 2010 Kawasaki Mule Trans 4×4 from Wilderness Kawasaki and a 2010 F150 from Ryan Ford.
Proceeds of the tournament benefit the Franklin Novicke Memorial Scholarship Fund given each year to students who have lost a parent or guardian.

Community Wide Garage Sale coming to Orchard in April

The City of Orchard and the EDC is sponsoring a Community Wide Garage Sale. Residents are urged to take advantage of a once-a-year opportunity to turn those not needed items into cash by participating in the Community Wide Garage Sale scheduled for Saturday, April 17.
Residents, organizations or church groups wishing to participate are urged to complete the registration form (available at Orchard City Hall) and return it to Orchard City Hall. By registering, residents can be sure their garage sale will be included on a garage-sale listing sheet to be handed out to visitors at a Welcome Station at entrance to the City. Anyone wishing to have a food booth, drinks, etc. may do so at the City Park. You must obtain a permit from the Health Department.
Wallis Chamber banquet on April 10

Texas Senator Glenn Hegar, District 18 will be the keynote speaker at the Wallis Chamber of Commerce banquet on Saturday, April 10. The banquet will be held at the Wallis Knights of Columbus Hall, 703 Columbus Road in Wallis.
The Wallis Chamber of Commerce banquet will have a social hour from 6-7 p.m. Guest will have the opportunity to visit and bid on silent auction items. The banquet will begin at 7 p.m.
A meal of Chicken fried chicken, potatoes, mixed vegetables and salad will be served. Tickets for this special event are $10. Tickets are available at D&M One Stop and The Wallis News-Review or from any Chamber of Commerce director.
Silent auction items are needed. Any businesses or individuals wanting to donate are asked to call Joanie Griffin at 979-398-0706 or Carol Blazek at 979-877-5450. The proceeds of the silent auction will benefit the chamber scholarship fund for Brazos High School seniors.

Support your local Red Cross branch office at Coldstone Creamery located LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch , 23501 Cinco Ranch Blvd. in Katy. The fundraiser will be Thursday, March 25 from 5-8 p.m.
A portion of sales on March 25 will benefit your local Western branch office serving Katy, Waller County and Austin County. So stop by for some tasty ice cream and support a good cause. The funds raised will aid in local disaster relief operations and health & safety services.
CASA golf tournament set for April

The fourth Annual Golf Tournament benefiting CASA for Kids of Austin, Waller, and Washington Counties will be at the Brenham Country Club on Friday, April 30. Registration begins at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.
The cost to play is $100 per player, $400 per team. Additional lunches are $15 per plate. Sponsorships are also available. For more information contact the CASA office at 979-277-0088 or any CASA Board Member.
CASA for Kids of Austin, Waller, and Washington Counties is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of abused and neglected children in our community. CASA for Kids advocates in the best interest of abused and neglected children in the courts through the training and support of local volunteers, Court Appointed Special Advocates.
